In Rememberance
The growing church with room for you!
Rancho Bernardo resident, Charles Alcorn passed away on November 8th after a four-month
battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.  He was 83.

Chuck was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 25, 1924.  He attended Penn State where
he earned his B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Commerce and Finance.  In college, Chuck was
class president, manager of the basketball team, president of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and a
member of The Lion’s Paw Honor Society.

Following college, Chuck married and had a daughter, Jeannie.  He became a wholesale
furniture salesman and continued in that profession for 27 years.

In 1979 Chuck relocated to the San Diego area.  He met his wife “Mike,” shortly after he moved to
California and they were married in 1981.  Chuck and Mike became born-again Christians in 1988
and began Community Church of God’s Word, a non-denominational Christian church now
located in Scripps Ranch.

Chuck had a great passion for Dixieland jazz music.  He played both saxophone and clarinet and
had the privilege of sitting in with several famous bandleaders in his teens and early twenties.  He
was the owner/manager of “Good Time Charlie’s” band in the early ‘80s and attended the San
Diego Dixieland Jazz Festival religiously for the past 25 years.

Chuck’s faith in the Lord was forefront in his life and it helped him through the trial he endured the
last few months.  Until July of this year, Chuck was in perfect health and continued to work as an
account executive in advertising sales for Pomerado Publishing, where he was employed for 12
years.  He officially retired in September.

When asked how he wanted to be remembered, Chuck wrote: “As a loving, kind gentleman,
always lifting up the spirits of others.”  Those who had the privilege of knowing Chuck will
remember him exactly that way and look forward to the day when they will see him again in
Heaven.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife Mike, his daughter Jeannie, his stepchildren Michael, Steven,
Kristin and Karen and his step-grandson Cameron.

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you
sorrow as others who have no hope.  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so
God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming
of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend
from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the
dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore comfort one another with these words.  - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Beloved husband, father, step-father, mentor, friend, brother-in-the-Lord and church co-founder,
Chuck Alcorn went home to heaven on Thursday, November 8th.  We miss him greatly, but we
know that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that we will see them both soon.

We look forward to that day, but rejoice with the angels in the homecoming Chuck received, for we
are confident that God greeted him with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

We love you, Chuck, and will be with you soon
